Goals and objectives ::
To become familiar with the responsibilities and activities of the Infection Control Department.
Mix of patients ::
Fellows spend the equivalent of one-half day per week with Infection Control Practioners to observe activities such as infection surveillance, documentation, and reporting. Infection Control activities, associated with Central supply (instrument care), Facilities Services (HVAC, construction, water, etc) and Biodefense planning.
Patient Care issues such as isolation, exposure follow-up and post –exposure prophylaxis will be reviewed. Special projects may also be worked on during this time
Educational Resources ::
The Curriculum of the Association for Practitioners in Infection Control. Also, Fellows should attend Infection Control Committee meetings or other meetings when possible.
Evaluation ::
At the completion of the rotation, the ICPs with whom the fellow has rotated conduct an evaluation with the Fellow.
