Brief Biography ::
Dr. Lazarus is a tenured full Professor of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University and he practices at UH CMC in the Division of Hematology-Oncology where he was Director of the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program for more than 25 years. He led a sustained and innovative clinical and translational research program focused on chemotherapy dose escalation and blood and marrow transplantation for improving therapy of malignant disorders. His seminal impact in multiple aspects of transplantation was recognized in 1986 by his invitation to develop and chair the Blood and Marrow Transplant Committee of the National Cancer Institute, a position he held until 2003. For the past decade, he has been the Principal Investigator of the case consortium of the blood & marrow transplant clinical trials network, an organization funded by the national cancer institute and the national heart, lung and blood institute. Dr. Lazarus has over 400 publications including over 300 peer reviewed articles, 50 book chapters and 70 review articles. He is an editor of 6 textbooks in the field of blood and bone marrow transplantation, hematologic malignancies, and supportive care for cancer patients. He has been a gifted teacher and mentor to countless medical residents, fellows and junior faculty, influencing many to pursue careers in academic medicine.
