The Department of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University has a long tradition of excellence in health care, biomedical research and teaching of physicians in training.

Clinical excellent comes from our superb staff and a collaborative, team approach to patient care.  Our clinical outcomes compare with the top academic medical centers in the world. Our world class research enterprise is reflected in our NIH funding which is in the top 10 percent of Departments of Medicine. Our commitment to education has been recognized by a number of regional and national awards to our training programs and educational leaders.

The Ohio Patient Safety Institute awarded UH Cleveland Medical Center with 2011 OPSI Best Practice Award for developing the Resident EQUIPS (Externship in Quality and Patient Safety). The OPSI Best Practice Award honors a health care organization for implementing the most innovative, evidence-based patient safety practice in the state.

This year six graduate-medical-education residency programs at UH Case Medical Center rank among the top 10 in the Midwest, according to Doximity, the largest online professional network for U.S. physicians.
