Dr. Armitage is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Case Western Reserve University and is the Vice Chair for Education and Residency Director in the Department of Internal Medicine. His primary profession focus has been on postgraduate medical education and clinical infectious diseases.
Dr, Armitage currently serves as the Past President of the Council of the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine. In 2002 he received the Parker J. Palmer Award from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
His research interests include the process of care in community-acquired pneumonia. He has published a number of book chapters and peer review articles.
Dr. Armitage received his undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas and attended medical school at the University of Colorado. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases Fellowship at Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals Case Medical Center. He served as Chief Resident in the Department of Medicine 1991-1992 and joined the faculty at Case Western in 1992. He holds certification in internal medicine and infectious diseases from the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. In the School of Medicine, he has served on a number of committees, including the Committee on Students 2003-2007, the Committee on Medical Education 1999-2002 and the Faculty Council 1996-1999 and 2004-2007 (Chair 2006-2007).
He is married and has three children under the age of 12.

Richard A. Walsh, M.D. is the John H. Hord Professor and Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University and Physician-in-Chief of University Hospitals Health System. In these capacities he is responsible for the development of patient care, research, and teaching of the largest department of the School of Medicine and University Hospitals.
His department currently ranks 11 of 126 Departments of Medicine in NIH funding. There are over 220 full time faculty members and 12 divisions including: Cardiovascular Medicine, Hematology/Oncology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Disease, Hypertension, Pulmonary/Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, Rheumatology, Geriatric Medicine, General Internal Medicine, Nephrology, and Endocrinology.
He also serves on the Dean’s Advisory Committee at Case School of Medicine, the President’s Advisory Committee of University Hospitals of Cleveland, Chairman of the Finance Committee for the Faculty Practice Plan, and Past Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Medical Services Organization.
Dr. Walsh obtained his undergraduate and M.D. degree from Georgetown University magna cum laude. He was Medical School Class Valedictorian and President of the Medical Honors Society. His Internal Medicine housestaff training occurred at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and his cardiovascular fellowship training at Georgetown University Hospitals. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology.
His initial faculty appointment was in the Department of Medicine and the Division of Cardiology at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio where he advanced from assistant to full professor. During that ten year span, he was the director of the clinical and research catheterization and hemodynamics laboratories at that institution and the Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research. He then became the Mabel S. Stonehill Professor, Chief of the Division of Cardiology and the inaugural Director of the Cardiovascular Center at the University of Cincinnati for eight years where he was awarded and directed one of five National Institutes of Health sponsored Specialized Centers for Research in Heart Failure. This program pioneered the use of genetically engineered mice to elucidate mechanisms of cardiac hypertrophy and heart failure and developed many of the approaches now widely utilized to characterize cardiac physiology and pathophysiology of mice in vitro and in vivo.
His laboratory, which was continuously funded by the American Heart Association and National Institutes of Health for over 20 years, has focused on mechanisms responsible for congestive heart failure. In particular, he has contributed to our knowledge of how aberrant signal transduction alters cardiac size and function. He has contributed over 240 full length scientific publications and edited four books. He is Immediate Past Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology, Senior Editor of the 12th and 13th Editions of Hurst’s The Heart, on the Executive Board of the Association of Professors of Medicine, a member of the American Society of Clinical Investigation and the Association of American Physicians among others. He has served as Chairman of the Scientific Publishing Committee of the American Heart Association and on the editorial boards of all of the major Cardiology journals and has chaired study sections for the National Institutes of Health and the American Heart Association.

Gopal Yadavalli, MD

Gopal Yadavalli, MD is an Associate Program Director based at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VAMC and is the Chair of the Intern Selection Committee. Dr. Yadavalli graduated from Jefferson Medical College, completed his Internal Medicine residency, chief residency, and Infectious Diseases fellowship at University Hospitals Case Medical Center and joined the CWRU faculty in 2003. His clinical appointment is at the VA, where he is the Chief of the ID clinic and directs the HIV program. Dr. Yadavalli is a member of the Case Center for AIDS Research, where he maintains research interests in HIV immunopathogenesis and on outcomes of antiretroviral therapy. He leads the CFAR efforts to develop research capacity in south India. Dr. Yadavalli has developed and continues to supervise the Clinical Skills Block for interns. He leads CaseIndiaTrips, a supervised elective for medical residents in south India and is also the director of the International Health Track of the IM residency. Dr. Yadavalli leads the Humanities in Medicine program of the residency and is the recipient of multiple ‘Scholarship in Teaching’ awards from the medical school. He lives in Cleveland Heights with his wife and daughter.
Carla Harwell, MD

Dr. Harwell is a member of the Division of General Internal Medicine at Case. She is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and on the full time faculty at University Hospitals Case Medical Center. Dr. Harwell has served as a clinic preceptor and resident mentor for many years, and assumed the role of an Associate Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program in July 2006. Her clinical focus is outpatient general medicine and primary care with an additional focus in health care disparities and women’s health. Dr. Harwell is nationally recognized as a leader in education on health care disparities and medical issues affecting minorities. She serves as a clinic preceptor and co-director of the Douglas Moore Residents Clinic at University Hospital Case Medical Center and Director of the David Satcher Clerkship. Dr. Harwell serves on a number of local, regional and national boards and has received numerous awards and honors. Dr. Harwell attended medical school at the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine and subsequently completed internship and residency at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine (University Hospital Case Medical Center and the Cleveland VA). After completing her residency, she took a faculty position at Case and assumed the role as Medical Director for the Otis Moss Jr, University Hospitals Medical Center. Dr. Harwell resides in the city of Richmond Heights, where she lives with her husband and daughter.
Armand Krikorian, MD

Dr. Krikorian is Associate Program Director, and Assistant Professor in the Division of Clinical and Molecular Endocrinology at Case Medical Center and the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center. He attended medical school at the American University of Beirut completed his internship, residency, and Endocrinology fellowship at University Hospitals Case Medical Center. He has been on the faculty of the CWRU School of Medicine since 2006. Dr. Krikorian’s clinical interests include inpatient diabetes and general Endocrinology. He is the recipient of the Circle of Hospitals Award from the American Diabetes Association and directs the inpatient diabetes service. Dr. Krikorian is a member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) Ohio River Board of Directors and the AACE annual meeting Program Planning Committee. He is actively involved in clinical trials in diabetes. Dr. Krikorian lives in Lyndhurst with his wife and two children.
Simran K. Singh, MD

Dr. Singh is the Director of the Firm Clinics at the Louis Stokes Cleveland Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Ceneter and an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. A graduate of the combined BA/MD program at Boston University, she received her internal medicine residency training at the Boston University Medical Center. Dr. Singh has a special clinical research interest in gender-based disparities in primary care and ambulatory patient safety issues. She is actively involved in teaching and academic activities both with residents at the VAMC, as well as with medical students at the School of Medicine. She enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, and traveling.
